i heart hamilton / THE WALKMEN

so i caught a WALKMEN show here in cincinnati last evening / its been several years since i have seen them play live / and not sure what made everything click this time around... maybe the sense of maturity and perfectly crafted sound, just shear strength of playing tunes from this incredible new lisbon record, or maybe just hamilton's sharp haircut, well fitted suit and suede chukkas these days / but they completely blew me away / ive always had a lot of respect for this band, and no one can croon like hamilton leithauser, but this latest album still has me believing all over again // i cannot wait to catch another show from THE WALKMEN under the tents at BONNAROO this june

love is all / THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH

with a well received Coachella show last weekend / this stellar performance of KING OF SPAIN on BBC's Later with JOOLS HOLLAND from earlier this month / april has only proven relevance for THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH / i'm playing his first video LOVE IS ALL from the album THE WILD HUNT released roughly a year ago on dead oceans // its been a banner year for Kristian Matsson (several albums into his journey mind you) / but he is such a brilliant poet and gifted musician i can only hope he is living up to that grandiose moniker of his... haha // i do honestly think a soul like his only comes along about once a generation / so much love and respect as he only seems to continue to grow...

architecture / MILLER HOUSE by EERO SAARINEN

the house that architect EERO SAARINEN completed in 1957 for j. irwin MILLER and his family in COLUMBUS, INDIANA, easily qualifies as a paragon of residential midcentury modernism / amazingly, the glass and steel, 6,838-square-foot pavilion, with interiors by ALEXANDER GIRARD and landscaping by DANIEL KILEY, has remained intact all these years

the MILLER family gave the one-story house, the grounds, and most of the furnishings to the IMA (indianapolis museum of art) in 2009 and the property has undergone a $2 million restoration // the MILLER HOUSE will open to the public in MAY 2011

so armed with an old WALLPAPER magazine #24 from DECEMBER 1999 (which features COLUMBUS, INDIANA and some of the 70 buildings and pieces of public art by internationally noted architects and artists) and my old camera, of course / i'm very excited to make my own pilgrimage to this small modernist town next month...

his 'post empire' tweets this week were about the most exciting moments i have ever experienced on twitter... haha / and i'm sorry, but when an intellectual, extremely gifted writer/wordsmith and observer of culture makes such off-colored remarks / perhaps a society should not be so quick to judge or retaliate to what they perceive as simply HATE // and yes, intellectuals have the ability to push buttons, thats true, but they also the power to raise questions and to reflect upon society / so perhaps things are not always so black and white, and just maybe things are worth examining on a multitude of levels (or at least educate yourself a little on the history of it before you throw the stones) / or fuck, maybe it was simply to garner attention or get a rise.. haha / regardless, for all of these reasons, BRET EASTON ELLIS is simply #winning this week

still awaiting my spring issue to arrive in the mail / but excited to see the multiple covers being released under new editor and chief MAX PEARMAIN (whom previously severed as POP magazine menswear editor) im also hearing of a limited edition version that contains an extra 45 pages of STEVEN KLEIN material // can only hope subscribers will receive that version / but will be stalking the newstands regardless come april 18th when the issue is released worldwide

looking back 50 years ago this season at my favorite TIME MAGAZINE covers / is it how far we have come or how little our taste have changed in this modern era? // regardless, there is no greater tool than the knowledge of ones history... never underestimate that / as we may never know what lays ahead in our future, there is always confidence in knowing those answers have already been outlined within in our past.
